The sole objective of formation of this
Corporation is to develop IWT mode of transport and restoring the same to its rightful
place in the overall transport system of the country. Accordingly, the mission of the
Corporation is to provide leadership in the establishment, maintenance and operation of
Inland Water Transport Services by offering a safe, reliable, economic, pollution free low
capital – intensive and efficient mode of transportation, along with the necessary
construction and repair of vessels for its own use as well as those of other agencies by
using appropriate technology. The Corporation is the premier and the largest IWT operator
in the organized sector.
